RV Guardian

Privacy Policy

Effective October 5, 2026

In short: RV Guardian keeps your rig records so you don’t lose them. We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics tools. Your location is used to answer the question you asked (nearby campgrounds, the weather on your route), and is kept only in what you keep: places and trips you save, and the trip journal of drives you make with the app. You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time.

This policy covers the RV Guardian app (on the web, installed on a computer, and from app stores) and the website rvguardianapp.com. “We” means the people who run RV Guardian.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address and password. The password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form; nobody can read it. You can use the app without an account, in which case everything stays on your device.

Guardian Pro

If you subscribe to Guardian Pro, Google Play takes the payment. We never see your card or bank details. We keep a record that your account has Pro, until when, and the purchase code Google gives us for it, so Pro works on every device you log in on.

What you put in the app

With an account, these are saved to your account so they survive a lost phone and appear on your other devices. They are private to you, and to anyone you choose to share a rig with.

Things you post for other RVers

Other people see what you wrote, not your email address or name.

Shared rigs

If you share a rig, the people on it see that rig’s records, and see each other by the first part of their email address (the part before the @), including who logged each record.

Your location

When you ask for something near you, or plan a route, your device’s location or the route is sent to our servers to get the answer: places nearby, directions, weather, burn bans, steep grades, or who manages the land. It is used for that request and not stored.

What you choose to keep is stored: places you save, trips you plan, and the trip journal. When you drive with the app, the journal records that drive (when and where it went, the miles, and a simplified trail of GPS points for its map) on your device and, with an account, in your account, until you delete the entry or your account.

The app asks your permission before using your location, and works without it.

Notifications

If you turn notifications on, we store what your browser or phone gives us to deliver them (a delivery address and encryption keys, issued by your browser’s push service), a short device label such as “Android phone”, your choice of alerts, your quiet hours and your time zone.

On your device

The app keeps a copy of your data on your device so it works with no signal.

What we don’t collect

No advertising identifiers, no analytics or tracking tools, no contacts, and no payment details.

Why we use it

We don’t sell or rent your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Only the services that make the app work, and only what each one needs:

ServiceWhat forWhat it receives
SupabaseDatabase, logins, file storage and our server functionsYour account and everything saved to it
Google PlayTaking payment for Guardian Pro, and telling us whether a subscription is activeThe purchase code, from our server. Google tells us nothing about your card
VercelHosts the website and appStandard web request information, such as IP address
TomTomDirections, place search and the map picturesThe locations or route of a request, from our server, not linked to you. Map pictures are loaded by your device directly, so TomTom also sees your device’s IP address and the map area shown
OpenStreetMap (Overpass)Campgrounds, dump stations and other placesThe map area searched, from our server. If our server can’t be reached, your device asks a public Overpass server directly, which then also sees your device’s IP address
U.S. National Weather ServiceWeather and alertsPoints along your route, from our server
State and federal fire and land agencies, the FCC area lookup, U.S. Geological SurveyBurn bans, wildfires, which county you’re in, who manages the landThe place asked about, from our server
Amazon Web Services open data (terrain tiles)Ground height for steep-grade warningsMap tiles along your route, from our server
Your browser’s push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft)Delivering notificationsThe encrypted notification, which it cannot read

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Your data is kept while you have an account. Sent notifications are kept for about a year so the same one is never sent twice, then deleted. When you delete your account, everything is deleted straight away. Copies in our database host’s routine backups expire on their normal schedule.

Your choices

Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The database only lets each person reach their own data, and the keys for our map and notification services are kept on our servers, never in the app.

Children

RV Guardian is for adults and isn’t directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date. Important changes will be announced in the app.
